Pugna and quandaries

Thursday, November 30th, 2006

There’s currently a super-typhoon waltzing around in the northern part of my country; incidentally, the school that I go to and the dormitory that I reside in temporarily is also in that northern part. To obviate any catastrophe, our president declared today as a day without classes. This is all good, as I haven’t done any of my homework yet, but what makes it better is that tomorrow, we also have no classes because we’ll celebrate one of the foremost people who formed the Philippine republic. That would mean that we’d have four straight days without classes – from Thursday to Sunday. However, sloth that I am, I wasted today (Thursday) doing nothing but sleeping, watching anime, and playing DotA. I had fun, however, because I really became better with Pugna to the extent of being the one who carried our team to victory with a Heart of Tarrasque and two Aegis. It was definitely a fun day, having experimented with different builds of Pugna, but it was also a regrettably forgettable day when placed in the context of academics. I was just too damn lazy, and I loved it (sadly).

It seems that the maximum amount of time I can spend on studying and being diligent is only two weeks, and those two weeks are chronologically located at the start of the semester until two weeks after it. After that, I disintegrate and become someone engrossed with different things: none of those things are studying, however. I really am amazed with people who can tolerate the tedium and the repetition, because I can’t. I can’t just sit and read a textbook; right now, I haven’t even done my homework. It’s much more fun to play DotA or watch anime. (~POOOOOOOOGNA!!!)

My God. I am an abhorrent person.

Then again, there’s always tomorrow. I hope I can deal with my subjects and impending exams better tomorrow. I wish I would not waste that time on DotA. But I’ll still watch anime, and since I’ve just discovered Kemonozume today, I have another show I will want to follow.

A psychological analysis on Soukou no Strain’s Sara Werec

I have been oscillating between different WP themes, because I wanted to change the look of my site. I am partial to this template mainly because its banner image is cute and purplish (and I like derivatives of purple), but I just decided to stick with my Chocolate Candy theme after staying with this theme for about a day. I’m just saying this because you may have seen different themes of this site at different times of day. I was just experimenting. I may have these irrational binges later on, so I ask pardon in advance. For the time being, however, what do you think of this template? I picked this template because I loved the banner image – it just looks good to me. (more…)

Tokimeki Memorial ~ Only Love

I must ask pardon for the lack of discretion I had with this post; although I didn’t imbibe any alcoholic drinks or partake of foods with high sugar content, I must have had excess dopamine (a neurotransmitter involved in motivation and pleasure) in my system at that time. I can offer no more reasonable explanation. (more…)

Swimming in a sea of useless discovery – ep1

Sunday, November 26th, 2006

Having read a lot, I’m familiar with quite a few English words. One of them is quite unpopular in the Internet to the extent of being unused. The word as well as its denotation is elucidated by Clippy below. 🙂

It’s just fun to note that no one really used that word in the Internet except for an AnimeSuki forums poster. I didn’t even expect that word to be unfamiliar, but if it isn’t found in even the different online dictionaries it must be. (Or I’m just a guy who utilizes even archaic English. But it’s FUN!) If you don’t believe me, however, you can just

Google

I kid, I kid.

Other notable things in the anime ‘blogosphere’ is that there’s a site with an unbelievable amount of comments. He has 1922 for one post, another 1600+ for another, and 99 for another. Check it out here.

Of course, most of those comments are spam. Seems like somebody didn’t install Akismet. :V

(Now that I look at it, this isn’t even funny. I fail. I’m sorry. I don’t mean offense to those sites I’ve referred to, however. *sighs*)

Why I write

Sunday, November 26th, 2006

As you may all see, my about page is nothing more than an emotive rant speaking nothing. Although I wrote it more than three months ago, I have decided to leave it unaltered as it reflected an irrational state of mind. Thus, I’d like to present in this post, why I really write and am still writing. (more…)

Firefox v. Opera

Sunday, November 26th, 2006

I like the Opera Web Browser; the only reasons why I still used Firefox despite noted flaws by knowledgeable people (though I don’t have any links or whatnot), was that I could post on this blog much more easier with it than with Opera. It seems that this only qualm of mine has already been resolved and rectified with the new Opera 9 (well, relatively new). If it passes the test of maintaining the format of the paper from OpenOffice, I may have to use it even more – although I still don’t have much problems with Firefox, it’s always good to have alternatives.

Well, after I’ve tried it, sadly, it hasn’t kept the justifications and measurements done on word processors like OpenOffice.org Writer.

I’ve a splitting headache so I’ll keep this simple. S-Strain rocks, Asatte no Houkou is godly and the final four episodes of Akagi have already been released alongside the anime that was just subbed most recently, 009-1. I’d have posted more, but my head hurts like hell. Good night, all.

GARtender

Wednesday, November 22nd, 2006

After all the past serious posts, now is the time to have some fun. Did you ever hear of Bartender? (This post will get all reference-y, so kindly bear with me.) You may have heard of it from Cory over at Renegade Anime Blog who praises its beauty and intelligence. Not to offend him, but I’m going to make FUN of that series.

moe burger over at the ANO Podcast Blog commented about the bartender being a GARtender. I initially LOL’d at the statement, but it seems this isn’t an isolated commentary: people all over the Internet share this opinion (4chan), but really, taking care of an OLD MAN with a COOL DRINK: isn’t that PERVERSE? The innuendos are in abundance with this show. It’s so suggestive, but in reality they’re just TOO HARD GHEY for each other. Here’s one opinion of the show:

WTF
BartenderLOL
I CAN’T GET OVER THIS. JUST– OMG. IT HAD EVERYTHING. STILL ANIMATION, LOL OPENING, ZEN DULL BARTENDER OF DOOM, RANDOM WOMAN I DIDN’T KNOW WHAT THE HELL SHE WAS THERE FOR, BAR!HATER PSYCHO, ICE BREAKING, RECIPES. OMG IT HAD RECIPES. THE ONLY THING I THOUGHT IT WAS LACKING… YES, SNAKES.
SO A KEEPER! Actually, I don’t think I could stand another episode of this 🙁 Which is a shame, because it’s GENIUS. NOT
So there! Let’s see how many times I change my mind, and how many series I’ll drop because of that! (if fansubs keep coming out, that is)

Still, WE MUST NOT INSULT THE POWER OF THE GARTENDER. AND NOW IS THE TIME FOR A HIGHLY SUGGESTIVE IMAGE!

SHAKE IT BABY! MOVE IT UP AND DOWN! YEAHHH!

It’s the problem of every student: school is cramping their style and their lives, and it’s my problem as well. I haven’t really watched the amount of anime I would have liked to, but then again, I’ve promised I’ll be more serious towards my studies this semester. (more…)

In praise of shadows: anime, culture, critique, analysis (maybe)

Just to say hello … :)

Friday, November 17th, 2006

I’ve cracked my neck and knuckles and tried to start the second semester properly. So far, it’s quite good. The disadvantage that follows with me adapting to a lifestyle more proper to that of a student, however, is that I don’t have much time to watch anime. In fact, I’ve only watched a few episodes this week – it doesn’t help that our class schedule is pretty hectic. I’m glad I haven’t become nonplussed or even flabbergasted with the first week, although worse times are to come. This is just a warning: I have not updated for three days already, as you may see, so pardon the noticeable absence from blog posting. (I am still plodding through Tsuyokiss, however. It’s practically the only anime I remember watching this week. Is it maybe because it’s really bad? Maybe. Maybe not. I’ll just keep on watching.) (more…)
