I have not updated in almost a week because I have been very busy with real life having exams in almost everyday of last week. In those two days where I didn’t have exams, I had reports to present and to deal with as well. In fact, I haven’t watched much anime at all – there also weren’t much updates with the anime I’m watching currently.

I played DotA the whole day yesterday (until the wee hours of morning), and all I can say is that using Mortred is really fun but is also highly taxing. First, she doesn’t contribute much to the well-being of the team and is a pure killer; second, she doesn’t have any natural escape mechanisms other than the Blink Strike, which is a highly situational escape mechanism. She also needs to have farmed well so that she will dominate the late game. It irritates me, because although I’ve had games where I’ve dominated with Mortred she’s just so hard to use against a team of disablers and spammers. I tried using her against a team of Pudge, Akasha, Medusa, Rhasta and Jakiro, and I fed. A whole lot.

Well, maybe I overstate, but despite the fact of having obtained a Blink Dagger as my very first item and having farmed enough to have a Demon Edge, I choked in their presence. I fed, 2-6, despite all my valiant efforts to escape their disables. It really sucks, because when I play other heroes I always can get back to my knees most of the time, like Lina for example. I can seriously say that it’s really hard using Mortred and owning with her consistently, but maybe that’s because she’s among the harder heroes to use – after all, one can use Morphling or Dwarven Sniper and just have fun picking Mortred off before she can even come close. And I can and do own with other heroes consistently – just not Mortred.

So much for anime – but there really hasn’t been any proper updates among the things I do watch this week.

It has been quite a while since I’ve written a post that I have thought of incisively and thoroughly (although I still did try to write what little I could in those previous posts of mine) as the usual obstructions plague me: there still remains the same old frustration with myself, sometimes the recurring depression, and the feeling of simply drifting towards nowhere. The Rapeman

I guess I’ve totally desecrated and proven myself a dishonorable man because I’ve been unable to write as much as I wanted to (as I had promised in my previous post). I have a lot of things I want to write, but they’re highly personal and most probably would be just reiterations of my quotidian trials and tribulations (and they’re just getting worse and worse anyway). I’ve decided that to keep from succumbing to my addiction, I have to write something – anything – about anime everyday. A large part of the reason why I keep playing DotA is that I have only few series that I’m currently following because of the lean season, or the loli season. In fact, I’ve only watched three series from the winter season: REIDEEN (the first episode, anyway), Tokyo Majin Gakuen Kenpuchou (the first episode also), and Nodame Cantabile (well, I haven’t really watched it yet, because I want to marathon the first five episodes). The rest of the season is mostly about and is fluff, unless someone disagrees with me. (more…)

I want to write. It has been my hobby since my late elementary years and remained an avocation even until now. But more than writing about different ideas, I like writing about anime. And yet, try as I might to write about the different occurrences in the anime fandom this season, I cannot because there has been very few anime that currently air that are thought-provoking enough for me to write about. I do know there’s still Death Note and its many sub-groups, and Code Geass with its popular antihero, but other than those popular anime (that do deserve to be popular), I find little else of interest aside from Nodame Cantabile, which is still on its third episode. I’d rather wait for two more episodes before I start it, because I find that my praise and appreciation towards good anime are stultified whenever I watch them piecemeal.

The rest of the airing anime, however, are generally about lolis. I don’t denigrate the show just because it contains lolis, but I do see a correlation between lolis and plotwise low-quality anime. For the most part, I avoid them; and since this season is full of them, I haven’t watched much anime. I have, however, started with Gin-iro no Olynsis (and plan to watch all twelve episodes).

It’s a mediocre anime at best; the animation is subpar, the character design is decent at best and the plot is pretty flimsy. But it’s fun to watch its characters, in the vein of Gundam Seed, act. The occasional bad animation also makes it an enjoyable watch, at least for me. I wanted to watch the first episode of Reideen, but negative comments by different people have dissuaded me. (I also cannot find the first episode anywhere … even TT doesn’t have it.)
