An exploration of new horizons

Thursday, June 7th, 2007

Hey all! I’m not even sure if there are still some people who read this blog, but this is a reminder that I’m still here. I’ve had hectic summer classes, which bore great fruit with the efforts I gave, but now that after the summer classes and with a short break I’ve learnt to cherish a lot of things other than anime. Although DotA still remains to be a regular pastime of mine, I’ve had times where I was bored of it, especially before the release of 6.44. Now that there are six new heroes, the novelty arose once again, and I’m once again finding it fun. I’m quite a simple (if not a dim-witted guy), aren’t I?

That’s not the only reason that I’ve stopped blogging, however. No matter how many people find this season lively I found it merely full of rehashes except for a few series (and among those few series the only one I regularly watch is Reideen). I am besotted with Hoshikawa’s character and the animation, story, as well as art of Production I.G. is quite good. I’m pretty sure my interest will pick up in the next season when Mononoke will be aired, but until then I will find some time to dabble in other areas of interests (namely Japanese dramas and manga).

I’ve recently seen over at CrunchyRoll the first three episodes as well as the first half of the fourth episode of 1 Litre of Tears. The acting was magnificent, the casting was well-done, and there pervades an aura of a bittersweet melancholy towards the character of Aya. She is suffering, yet she remains to be strong for the sake of her family, her friends, and maybe, ultimately, herself. I found it touching, although I still didn’t cry in any of the episodes I’ve seen. I still have a box of tissues beside me, always, in case I do start crying. :)

I also am watching Proposal Daisakusen, Lunch no Joou, and I have downloaded the Maison Ikkoku (<3) drama special. Classes will again start sometime next week, so I have to make the most of the free time that I do have now. I think I'm going to download Hataraki Man, but since it took too long to be subbed I’m also losing the interest. :V

I’m quite fond of demonic pigs, and I don’t know why. There’s this new hero in 6.44, known as Pit Lord (among the orcish/undead bosses of Warcraft III), and he’s really only purely for support; with his skills he can barely kill, but I’m finding him fun because Dagon is always fun (for last hitting :) ).

I’m sorry for getting off-topic but I do want those who still do read my site to know that I’m still here, lurking and waiting for good anime and manga to come out. By the way, on manga, I love Ai Kora, Mx0, and Rosario+Vampire. I think I’m going to pick up Pretty Face soon, because I’ve heard it was also drawn by Kazurou Inoue.

I’m sorry for the disjointedness of this post, but it’s already 2 am here and I’m still thinking about what to do for my remaining days. I’m also stoned precisely because it is already 2 am. :)

Hell, it’s about time …

OHHHHH YEAAAAHHHHH.

Looking inside

Monday, May 14th, 2007

Frankly, to be entirely honest, I’ve gone to the extent to lose most interest in anime. Aside from the fact that the last anime I’ve seen in entirety was the totally awesome Maison Ikkoku, which has a drama that’s not yet subbed, I just don’t have the time anymore. This is just passing, though. I have classes everyday, even during summertime, and even if this season was replete with classics-in-the-making I just don’t find myself that deep into anime anymore. I ask of you guys to give me time, because after this semester I can find myself oscillating between anime and DotA once again. Right now, however, I just can’t spend enough time on both anime and DotA as I’m trying to excel in school. Please expect a hiatus for about a week or so. I’ll try to come up with a post deserving mention sooner or later. Have a nice day.

And yes, believe it or not, I’m once again *almost* excelling in school. :D

I had exams … and my brain is fried

Sunday, February 25th, 2007

I have not updated in almost a week because I have been very busy with real life having exams in almost everyday of last week. In those two days where I didn’t have exams, I had reports to present and to deal with as well. In fact, I haven’t watched much anime at all – there also weren’t much updates with the anime I’m watching currently.

I played DotA the whole day yesterday (until the wee hours of morning), and all I can say is that using Mortred is really fun but is also highly taxing. First, she doesn’t contribute much to the well-being of the team and is a pure killer; second, she doesn’t have any natural escape mechanisms other than the Blink Strike, which is a highly situational escape mechanism. She also needs to have farmed well so that she will dominate the late game. It irritates me, because although I’ve had games where I’ve dominated with Mortred she’s just so hard to use against a team of disablers and spammers. I tried using her against a team of Pudge, Akasha, Medusa, Rhasta and Jakiro, and I fed. A whole lot.

Well, maybe I overstate, but despite the fact of having obtained a Blink Dagger as my very first item and having farmed enough to have a Demon Edge, I choked in their presence. I fed, 2-6, despite all my valiant efforts to escape their disables. It really sucks, because when I play other heroes I always can get back to my knees most of the time, like Lina for example. I can seriously say that it’s really hard using Mortred and owning with her consistently, but maybe that’s because she’s among the harder heroes to use – after all, one can use Morphling or Dwarven Sniper and just have fun picking Mortred off before she can even come close. And I can and do own with other heroes consistently – just not Mortred. :(

So much for anime – but there really hasn’t been any proper updates among the things I do watch this week.

Underappreciated anime: part 1

The Rapeman

I guess I’ve totally desecrated and proven myself a dishonorable man because I’ve been unable to write as much as I wanted to (as I had promised in my previous post). I have a lot of things I want to write, but they’re highly personal and most probably would be just reiterations of my quotidian trials and tribulations (and they’re just getting worse and worse anyway). But with the interest of rousing attention to under-the-radar anime titles, let me introduce an OVA: The Rapeman. (more…)

A question about Genshiken … (that I desperately want answered)

Tuesday, January 2nd, 2007

… has bugged me for it lacks a definitive answer. Some noted bloggers said yes; some others said no. I’d like proof and I’d like something palpable -

DID KOHSAKA AND SAKI HAVE SEX OR NOT? (I should be ashamed of myself if that friend of mine who I gave this address to reads of this post, but I treat anime with a reverence almost close to that I give great novels. I simply want an answer to placate my inquisitive imagination and thinking. Thank you.)

I tried to answer this question by myself, and having seen and rewatched the anime (twice), I doubted that they did so, but rescinded that in favor of the belief that Saki was merely circumambulating around the other Genshiken members. I have my doubts, because even by ep7 Saki did not seem physically sated … and Kohsaka still remained the oblivious chick-magnet.

Please tell me. Please give me a definitive answer. I am really confused. I do know that Sasahara REALLY did do Ogiue, so that’s that.

Apologia Pro Vita Sua and an apology

Monday, December 18th, 2006

I’ve had my share of mindless rants (and a lot of them at that), but I cannot help but go back to that post of mine I made about a third of a year ago. Frankly, I wrote that post with a burst of hot passion, and it died simply as a burst. I’d like to reevaluate myself once more, this time trying to grasp and grapple ideas with cooler and more taciturn thinking. (more…)

Some surprise and succinct stuff about my state

Sunday, December 10th, 2006

It’s been some time since I’ve updated this site, and that is because I’ve been really busy with both school and club activities. It’s sad that I really may have failed my Histology exam, but despite the previous post I had been able to study: the exam was just so difficult that even if I did, it was futile. That was that. The days after the exam I spent with somewhat doing some charity work spending time with the marginalized children of our country: we did caroling in some homes and we held a Christmas party for them. It’s sometimes frustrating, however, because some children really are thankless bastards who’d go out of their way just to piss us off. It’s enervating because of that, but it’s also fun because of the children who you have touched and moved to strive for better lives. All the same, it’s REALLY tiring. (more…)

Pugna and quandaries

Thursday, November 30th, 2006

There’s currently a super-typhoon waltzing around in the northern part of my country; incidentally, the school that I go to and the dormitory that I reside in temporarily is also in that northern part. To obviate any catastrophe, our president declared today as a day without classes. This is all good, as I haven’t done any of my homework yet, but what makes it better is that tomorrow, we also have no classes because we’ll celebrate one of the foremost people who formed the Philippine republic. That would mean that we’d have four straight days without classes – from Thursday to Sunday. However, sloth that I am, I wasted today (Thursday) doing nothing but sleeping, watching anime, and playing DotA. I had fun, however, because I really became better with Pugna to the extent of being the one who carried our team to victory with a Heart of Tarrasque and two Aegis. It was definitely a fun day, having experimented with different builds of Pugna, but it was also a regrettably forgettable day when placed in the context of academics. I was just too damn lazy, and I loved it (sadly).

It seems that the maximum amount of time I can spend on studying and being diligent is only two weeks, and those two weeks are chronologically located at the start of the semester until two weeks after it. After that, I disintegrate and become someone engrossed with different things: none of those things are studying, however. I really am amazed with people who can tolerate the tedium and the repetition, because I can’t. I can’t just sit and read a textbook; right now, I haven’t even done my homework. It’s much more fun to play DotA or watch anime. (~POOOOOOOOGNA!!!)

My God. I am an abhorrent person.

Then again, there’s always tomorrow. I hope I can deal with my subjects and impending exams better tomorrow. I wish I would not waste that time on DotA. But I’ll still watch anime, and since I’ve just discovered Kemonozume today, I have another show I will want to follow.

Swimming in a sea of useless discovery – ep1

Sunday, November 26th, 2006

Having read a lot, I’m familiar with quite a few English words. One of them is quite unpopular in the Internet to the extent of being unused. The word as well as its denotation is elucidated by Clippy below. :)

It’s just fun to note that no one really used that word in the Internet except for an AnimeSuki forums poster. I didn’t even expect that word to be unfamiliar, but if it isn’t found in even the different online dictionaries it must be. (Or I’m just a guy who utilizes even archaic English. But it’s FUN!) If you don’t believe me, however, you can just

Google

I kid, I kid.

Other notable things in the anime ‘blogosphere’ is that there’s a site with an unbelievable amount of comments. He has 1922 for one post, another 1600+ for another, and 99 for another. Check it out here.

Of course, most of those comments are spam. Seems like somebody didn’t install Akismet. :V

(Now that I look at it, this isn’t even funny. I fail. I’m sorry. I don’t mean offense to those sites I’ve referred to, however. *sighs*)
