The crux of Cameron’s blog, even with all the tangential discussions regarding anime, is his search for the anime that he could proudly place as his ninth favorite among all the anime he has seen. Although he himself has not commented regarding this, I believe this is so: it is, after all, what is reflected in his blog’s name: searchofno9. My search for the holy grail is not as intensive or as defined as Cameron’s, although I am also searching for anime I can both place in my top ten list as well as be proud of.

WHY, OH WHY?

It has been more than a week since I have posted anything decent; as I have said before, however, I have been terribly busy as of late because I am trying to excel in class now and not simply while my time away playing video games or doing nothing. Since this write-up commemorates my 150th post in this site, I have thought of something to write that would reflect the gravity of this blog. Sadly, since I have not watched any anime except for the occasional Kimikiss episode, I am unable, as of yet, to write something totally about anime. But because time is ephemeral, and I may never be able to think like this in the future, I believed that I have to post these thoughts of mine at the soonest time possible. (more…)

It was quite a surprise for me that after I wrote my previous post regarding my blog’s organization, I thought of two highly disparate, and obviously unformed ideas that I planned to write posts on. This is the first; maybe after a day or so, I can also finalize the second fledgling post. (more…)

These past few days, I have been reading some T.S. Eliot. One may have known him from his masterwork The Waste Land, or perhaps a poem of his discussed even in basic literature classes, vivisected as well as praised by many literary critics which is The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock. I have read and reviewed the poem for five times at the very least: what I was reminded of when I read the poem recently was the paralysis or the indecision that pervades and characterizes most generic harem leads as well as leads of most romance series in anime, harem or not. I finally finished The Interpreters, a novel written by Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka. He won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1986. Although his plays were primarily the reason why he won the Nobel Prize, this novel still offers some insight to his genius. (more…)

I would have to say that this post will be my coup de grace to my consistent blogging, because class (sadly) starts tomorrow for me. This post may be longer than the 800 words I have hovered around with these past posts - kindly allow me this deviance.

I was actually searching for Neliel pictures but they are in short supply :<
Because of Totali’s recent participation with this blog, I have come to appreciate his way of writing about series I like. I opened his full blogroll recently, however, and his description of my site was that I do not write about anime. (more…)

A wise man said that some books are need to be read in entirety; some need to be read in parts and portions, and some need not be read at all. I have been able to write quite a number of posts because I am not burdened with schoolwork; consequently, that has made my mind more lucid and more accepting of new data and new information. I am now in my final days of relaxation: school looms again and will come in a few days from now. Since I am utilitarian, I believe in sucking the marrow of life as much as I could in the few days that remain. Who knows, this may be the last time I can write posts with such a relaxed mind. A curmudgeon told me some days ago that, if I remember correctly, my blog was idiotic (I wonder if that was the right term, but I am pretty sure the word had vitriol in its veins) because I often involved and alluded to literature. Personally, I do not think my posts are idiotic even if I do ever so often seem to act so online. It is because of a belief that paragons of both media perform quite similarly. This may be a crude categorization, but I believe that among many things, good examples of media (be the medium literature or anime, or even theatre) simultaneously possess three cardinal qualities viz 1) a power to entertain, 2) a power to instigate thinking, and 3) a power to change lives or creeds. There is something in the milieux of places that enriches and invites the fomentation of thought. Although I am unable to write at all whenever I am cramped in my own dormitory room, I find that even simply moving to a public Internet cafe (despite my possession of a decent Internet connection, and by decent I mean not a dial-up one) allows me to better organize my thoughts regarding the different occurrences and objects around, within, and beyond me. As I have noted in my previous entry, I have not written much about anime these past few weeks because I have been devoid of the Internet connection in my dorm. I have not watched anime because of this privation. (more…)

University life is so hectic; I realized that when I haven’t written anything for almost a month in this blog despite my love of writing. I haven’t done many productive things as well; other than rereading Faulkner’s The Sound and the Fury and some texts on philosophy (Marcel among the most notable mindfucks), I haven’t even enjoyed myself in the realm of literature (although now at least I have in anime). I have been a little less lazy when it came to studies, but I’m regressing right now into something abhorrent (and I’m guessing this is because of my reawakened interest in watching anime).
