I had planned to watch ef ever since some bloggers started talking about it, but I also firmly etched in my mind that I will wait until the final episode of ef has been aired. Since the final episode aired some time ago, I started watching ef three days ago. By then there were eleven episodes subbed, so I dutifully downloaded each one. I ventured to marathon the series, but changed my mind after I watched the first episode: it was heavy and relatively emotional without the light-hearted interpellation that characterized Honey and Clover. Consequently, the first episode cemented my decision to view the series piecemeal, one to two episodes at most in one sitting.

These are ef’s main girls.

I must ask pardon for the lack of discretion I had with this post; although I didn’t imbibe any alcoholic drinks or partake of foods with high sugar content, I must have had excess dopamine (a neurotransmitter involved in motivation and pleasure) in my system at that time. I guess that despite shooting all that flak towards A Time to Speak the novel had more of an effect on me than I liked to admit. I did not feel warm or fuzzy, however; nor did I feel awed or inspired with the book despite the author’s mastery of the English language. (Can you use shibboleth in a sentence without consulting a dictionary? That word alone was enough to wow me.) On the contrary, the novel’s aftertaste seemed like a partaking of a most unguent and sialoid gumbo without water to aid one in swallowing it. I’m not really on hiatus; so to confirm that I am not, here’s an update. Be warned, however, that it would be mostly about books and partly about anime – the only anime episodes I have watched since arriving here in my home city were the first two episodes of Tokimeki Memorial ~ Only Love. Since this is primarily an anime blog, let me start from there. (more…)
